Title of project:
Learning how to break the intergenerational transmission of risk using admin and cohort data
Proposal summary:
The proposed fellowship work focuses on examining inter-generational transmission of relational trauma (e.g child maltreatment and inter-partner violence) or "cycles of violence" through families, as well as the role of inter-generational trauma in transmitting risk for mental health problems, using both administrative (e.g. hospital records) and cohort data. The fellowship will explore the protective effect of supportive relationships in interrupting these cycles. The fellowship work also involves enriching our understanding of how to use administrative data in research.
Impact of research:
Policy impact on identifying those that are at risk and intervention/prevention targets to reduce cycles of abuse and mental health problems.
